Sunday Dec 29, 2019
Sunday Dec 29, 2019
Simi and Mona (mother and daughter) discuss the breakdown of Simi’s traditional arranged marriage.
Simi (well educated and attractive) should have been the perfect match for her successful new husband, but even as early as her wedding night, she became wary of her husbands dependency on Marijuana. Simi details a 15 year period of domestic abuse and drug addiction set in an affluent Surrey suburb. However, Simi goes into detail about how she was able to escape and build a successful, happy, healthy life after the abuse. Mona her daughter provides her perspective on how her parents relationship effected her, from court appearances to her own abusive relationship.
This story is one all too familiar to many women. It is estimated by ONS that over 1.3m women in the UK suffer from Domestic Violence. Sadly, domestic violence and honour based abuse is rife in the South Asian community.

Samosa Chats - Ep 7: Breakup to Breakdown
Sunday Dec 29, 2019
Sunday Dec 29, 2019
This week the tables are turned as Mona speaks to our very own Preet. He opens up about heartache, mental health and the challenge to cope in a society where men are expected to be a certain way.
The South Asian community in particular prescribes to the notion that brown men don't cry (well shouldn't cry.)
The journey to healing and self care has not been an easy one. We discuss how with time and attention there is always light at the end of the tunnel via the right coping strategies, a healthy support network and harnessing your energy in a positive way.
Everyone goes through dark times, but there's always a way out.
